On Monday in Santa Ana, Calif., the publisher of the Orange County Register will ask a bankruptcy judge to approve its sale to Tribune Publishing Co. for $56 million in cash.

Tribune has been a mainstay in Freedom Communications Inc.’s bankruptcy from the early days of the proceeding, but a new civil antitrust lawsuit from the Justice Department could block the sale.

Investors are working up their appetites for some hearty bankruptcy auctions in the upcoming week.

An auction is slated be held next Friday for the remainder of the Haggen Holdings LLC grocery chain. One interested bidder may be Ceberus Capital Management, which leads the group of investors that backs the Albertsons grocery chain. Cerberus received antitrust clearance to bid on the Haggen stores, according to documents filed March 4 with the Federal Trade Commission.

A Manhattan bankruptcy judge on Tuesday is expected to announce her decision on whether to free Sabine Oil & Gas Corp. from pipeline agreements it negotiated before the oil glut.

The agreements require Sabine to deliver minimum amounts of oil and natural gas to two pipeline operators for transport. If it doesn’t hit the benchmark, the pipeline companies collect a deficiency payment.
