Sound Effects for Sale at Bankruptcy Auction

Looking to get some bang for your buck? Then you might be interested in an upcoming auction at which sound effects are up for grabs.

Hollywood’s Todd-Soundelux LLC, which until its shutdown provided postproduction sound effects for movies and television shows, is selling a collection of sound effects to the highest bidder at a Nov. 13 auction.

Bids are due Nov. 5 for the company’s Hollywood Edge sound effects library and website, where you can find the perfect whizz, boom or bang to enliven your creative projects. Users pay a licensing fee to download sound effects appropriate for everything from a light rainstorm to an alien invasion. The Haunted House collection features such sounds as “spooky blood-curdling screams,” “graveyard” and a “haunted monster cave.”

Court papers show Todd-Soundelux has lined up a lead bid of a cool half million (insert ka-ching sound here) from Sound Ideas, a unit of Canadian company Brian Nimens Corp.

Todd-Soundelux will ask a Los Angeles bankruptcy judge to approve the winning bid at a hearing to follow next month’s auction.

Before its shutdown, Todd-Soundelux worked on such films and television shows as “Lone Survivor,” “Muppets Most Wanted,” “Mad Men” and “Game of Thrones.” The company sought Chapter 11 protection in May after facing a “significant decline” in revenue, particularly with regard to feature films.

Since entering bankruptcy, the company has moved to sell off its assets piece by piece, including its Burbank, Calif., sound studio and equipment and furniture from its other studios.
