Jones Day will open a permanent office in Detroit this July. The law firm, which represented the city in its chapter 9 bankruptcy case, will be headed by Timothy J. Melton, David Rutkowski and Jeff Jones. Mr. Melton will be partner in charge, while Mr. Rutkowski and Mr. Jones will serve as administrative partner and head of litigation, respectively.
Dorsey & Whitney partner Annette Jarvis was named to the board of directors at the American College of Bankruptcy. Ms. Jarvis, a fellow of the ACB since 2001, works with Dorsey & Whitney’s bankruptcy and financial restructuring group. She has represented banks, debtors, trustees, creditors and other parties in chapter 11 bankruptcies and workouts. Ms. Jarvis has worked on such well-known cases as Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, Naartjie Custom Kids Inc. and DBSI Inc.
Paul Labov has joined law firm Fox Rothschild as a partner, where he will work with the restructuring and bankruptcy group. Mr. Labov focuses on representing creditors in bankruptcy both nationally and internationally, and he has advised hedge funds, commercial bankruptcy institutions and other parties. He also represents state agencies that are involved in chapter 9 bankruptcy cases.
Mackenzie L. Shea was named as a partner at law firm K&L Gates. Ms. Shea has represented debtors, creditors, equity investors, trustees and other in chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and out-of-court restructurings. She works out of the law firm’s Boston office and has worked on cases including Brookstone Holdings Corp. and Tri-Valley Corp.
