Coming and Going Concerns

Joost Geginat has joined AlixPartners as a managing director and will help build the consulting firm’s turnaround and restructuring presence in Switzerland. Mr. Geginat, who will be based in Zurich, most recently worked as a managing partner of the Southeast Asia office of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. He focuses on reorganizations, portfolio optimizations and corporate strategies.

Michael S. Haynes has rejoined Gardere Wynne Sewell as a partner in the law firm’s bankruptcy and business reorganization practice. Mr. Haynes, who left Gardere for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in 2011, focuses on oil and gas matters in financial workouts and restructuring. He has represented bankruptcy trustees, debtors, creditors and other parties in bankruptcy cases.

Mark A. Platt has joined law firm McGuire Woods as a partner. He has experience with insolvency and commercial litigation and the telecommunications, real estate and energy industries. Mr. Platt, who co-chairs the American Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Insolvency Litigation Committee, most recently worked with Norton Rose Fulbright.

Brelle Rohwer has joined claims and noticing firm UpShot Services LLC as vice president of client services. Ms. Rohwer, a bankruptcy lawyer, has experience representing debtors, creditors’ committees, bankruptcy trustees and others. She has worked on such well-known bankruptcy cases as Blockbuster Corp., Lyondell Chemical Co. and Movie Gallery. Most recently, Ms. Rohwer worked with law firm Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones.

Smiley Wang-Ekvall, a law firm that focuses on insolvency, real-estate transactions and business litigation, has recently launched in California. Attorneys in the firm’s practice will represent debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, trustees and others in bankruptcy-related matters. The partners at the new firm are Evan D. Smiley, Lei Lei Wang Ekvall, Kyra E. Andrassy, Kraig C. Kilger, Robert S. Marticello, Autumn D. Spaeth and Philip E. Strok.
