Blog-on-Blog Violence With Brant ‘Princes of the City’
Seriously, after a couple of the family’s paper businesses have been forced to seek bankruptcy protection, you would think the teenage Brant brothers, crowned “The New Princes of the City” in the New York Times style section, could do a little more to sell newspapers.
However, 18-year-old Peter Brant II and Harry, who at 15 is “omnipresent on the New York social scene,” are the stuff of which fashion blogs are made, the Times reports.
They share their “hilarious, uncensored” thoughts in a joint Twitter feed, according to Stephanie Trong, editorial director of a New York magazine blog, who was interviewed by the Times.
“These guys live in the lap of luxury,” Trong told the Times. Her blog, according to the Times, chronicles the comings and goings of the “wisp thin” teens, sons of Peter Brant and Stephanie Seymour, a former Victoria’s Secret model. The two were involved in a messy divorce in 2010 but later reconciled.
Brant’s White Birch Paper Co. passed through Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2010 and was sold to Black Diamond Capital Management. Now SP Newsprint is in Chapter 11 and is having trouble luring a buyer, according to recent court filings. Both companies complained of the difficulty of selling paper in a world gone mad for digital news.
Home for the teen Brants, however, is the land of blogs and tweets, where everyone trips the digital light fantastic.
Well, not everyone. “The New York Times Profiled the Brant Brothers Because the New York Times Hates You” is Gawker’s version.
Everyone loves celebrity children? Nope, everyone does not, says Gawker’s Drew Magary. Magary’s takedown of the Times’ take of the two poor little rich Brant kids ranked as Gawker’s “most popular.”
This on a blog that is now featuring a story about a supermarket that’s offering free groceries to the first 100 naked shoppers. (You’ll have to look that one up yourself.)
Paywalls, anyone?
