Western Springs Bankruptcy Lawyer Describes The Help He Provides
In Chapter 13, there’s so much to know, there’s so much math to do, there’s so many technical issues that you have to do to get a case confirmed, and you want to be there for your client. So the great news about being a bankruptcy attorney is you get to help people. There’s very few areas of the law where, once a case is over, the client turns to you and says, “Wow. Thank you so much. You lifted the weight off my shoulder. You gave me my financial life back again. I’m so grateful for your services.” I mean look at any kind of lawsuit, whether it’s a divorce – no one wins in a divorce. It’s a negotiation. Everybody feels like they didn’t get the best deal, but you know, that’s usually what happens in a negotiation. You’ve got to give and you’ve got to take.
In a criminal law case, if the person’s found guilty, you obviously didn’t do a good job for them. They’re going to think, and if you get them off, they say, “Well, I didn’t do it anyway. I was wrongfully accused. It should’ve never gotten to this point.” And third, any kind of lawsuit, whether it’s a contract or personal injury or whatnot, people always feel like they were put through the wringer, and again, it was some sort of negotiation where they really didn’t get everything they wanted, and they had to pay their attorney, and they kind of feel scarred by the process. They don’t feel good about the court and the judge and the opposing counsel and the other side that they were suing. So there’s like a negative taste in their mouth.
