Harvey Bankruptcy Attorney On Legal Style

09/20/11

Another thing you should look for in a bankruptcy attorney is their style.  Is the attorney compassionate?  Does the attorney have a good bedside manner?  Does the attorney understand that you are a person and that you need to be treated with respect and dignity?  Does the attorney work for a small firm?  Is the attorney a solo attorney?  Does the attorney work for a very large firm where you will never be able to talk to that attorney one on one again?  These are questions that you want to ask.  You want to view their website; you want to see if they have any reading material available.  Did they provide any videos on their website?  Can you get a sense of how they’re going to treat you?  Most importantly, visit the office.  Take a look at the staff, meet with an attorney, and get a general feeling for their office.  You’re going to be spending a significant amount of time with that lawyer and spending a significant amount of money over time with that lawyer.  You want to make sure you have a good feeling about that law office, everything from the secretary or the greeter that meets you at that office all way down to the attorney you’re going to be dealing with on a day to day basis.

You will know right away when you go in are the phones ringing, are there people working ,does it look like it’s well maintained or does it look like a fly by night by office that just opened in some store front with card tables placed out for you to fill out forms like you’re a piece of meat.  Are you going to be treated like a number?  Are you going to be treated like a person?  This is a very strong consideration that you need to take in to place because you want to make sure the law firm that you hire is reputable, is on your side and is going to work hard for you.  These are the things you want to look for in a bankruptcy law firm above and beyond the price.

David Siegel is a Harvey Bankruptcy Attorney who can assist with chapter 7 and chapter 13 filings.
