David Ampaw and Chris Parker have been promoted to partner in the restructuring group in DLA Piper’s London office. Mr. Ampaw has advised clients in restructurings, workouts and insolvencies in the U.K. and abroad, and he has experience in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Parker has experience with fraud, investigations and litigation in complex restructurings.

Colorado gold miner Midway Gold Corp. could get the court approval it needs to sell most of its properties out of bankruptcy to GRP Minerals LLC at a hearing scheduled for Monday.

Judge Michael E. Romero is expected to review GRP Minerals’ purchase offer—the only one of its value to come in before the company’s bankruptcy auction—for its Pan mine in Nevada and several other properties.

The push to empower the territory of Puerto Rico to write down its debts–something supported by the Obama administration, the island’s government, and some Republican leaders in Congress–appeared to gain backing Wednesday from Donald Trump, the likely Republican presidential nominee.

“The problem with Puerto Rico—there’s far, far, far too much debt,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with CNN. “Don’t forget: I’m the king of debt. I love debt… I understand that stuff better than anyone else.”

Companies in bankruptcy are typically at the mercy of the lenders that hold the purse strings. Teen clothing retailer Aéropostale Inc. is trying to tip the scales in its favor.

The company immediately took aim at lender Sycamore Partners after filing for bankruptcy Wednesday, saying the private-equity firm directed a company it controls to cut off credit to the struggling retailer, hastening its demise.
