Energy Future Files for Bankruptcy, Some Second Liens Not on Board

Energy Future Holdings Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Tuesday, after reaching a deal with creditors on the terms of a debt-for-equity swap to restructure the private-equity backed utility’s debt load of more than $49 billion.

Nortel Prepares Private Broadcast of $7.3 Billion Cash Trial

Nortel Networks is preparing to spend more than $1 million on technology for an upcoming court fight over $7.3 billion raised in its global liquidation, a trial that will be broadcast live—but not to the public.

Only “authorized users” will be able to view the Webcast of the fight for the failed telecommunication company’s billions, according to an outline of the trial technology plan filed with the courts overseeing Nortel’s dissolution.

Transparency and bankruptcy go hand in hand, but the bankruptcy judge overseeing a closely watched asbestos case has taken an unusual step to keep certain details shielded from public view.

Last month, unredacted transcripts from confidential court proceedings in the bankruptcy case of Garlock Sealing Technologies LLC were inadvertently made available to the public online. Once staff of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Charlotte, N.C., realized this, the transcripts were yanked from the court docket and replaced with their redacted versions.
