A Bite. A Bankruptcy. A $100,000 Bill.

Over the years, Bankruptcy Beat has seen plenty of reasons offered as to why individuals and corporations file for bankruptcy. Recently, a peculiar one caught our eye.

In 2012, a New York man, Sultan Soliman, sought Chapter 7 protection in the face of a $110,000 court judgment issued against him following an incident in which he bit a neighbor (yes, bit him) on the nose in an elevator. In bankruptcy, many debts, including some court judgments, can be erased.

The Daily Docket: Judge Says Corzine, Others Can Tap MF Global Insurance

A bankruptcy judge said he would allow Jon S. Corzine and other former MF Global Holdings Ltd. executives and employees to tap the rest of their insurance money to pay for defense costs, but he is “concerned” with how quickly the money is being spent—though it isn’t within his power to stop it. Patricia Hennelly and Wayne Walker have joined advisory firm CohnReznick, which bought an ownership interest in Mr. Walker’s Philadelphia-based consulting firm, Walker Nell Partners. Mr. Walker, appointed as principal, has experience in turnaround management, corporate restructuring and bankruptcy matters.

Bankruptcy Trustee Draws Complaint

A bankruptcy trustee’s allegedly aggressive questioning of a debtor’s English-speaking skills is the subject of a complaint on file with a federal bankruptcy watchdog, a legal publication has reported.

The New York Law Journal Monday reported that consumer bankruptcy attorney William Ward Saxton filed a complaint against bankruptcy trustee John S. Pereira, accusing him of berating a debtor about her ability to understand English at a meeting in her bankruptcy case last month.
