Historic Black-Owned Swim Club Seeks Bankruptcy

A Philadelphia-area swimming pool that opened in the late 1950s for black members who were denied access to a nearby whites-only pool has filed for bankruptcy.

Officials who put the Nile Swim Club of Yeadon into Chapter 11 protection on Wednesday didn’t explain the club’s survival plan in the seven-page bankruptcy petition.

Syracuse Rug Seller to Shut Down—For Real This Time

Jacobsen Rugs in downtown Syracuse, N.Y., which has been selling oriental rugs since before the Depression, filed for bankruptcy and plans sell off the more than 2,000 rugs it has left before shutting down for good.

And this time, they mean it.

In 2011, the store got a wrist-slap from then-Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for holding a going-out-of-business sale that lasted too long.

Small Hospital Has a Whole Lotta Debt

A small hospital in Bloomington, Ind., has filed for bankruptcy with an eye-popping $134 million worth of debt.

Officials at Monroe Hospital, which has 32 beds but only cares for an average of eight patients, told a federal judge that the hospital owes about $121.8 million to a real estate investment trust that is both its landlord and lender.
