Exciting work by Marianne Bertrand and Adair Morse shows that information given to payday borrowers can reduce their future borrowing, holding payday lender behavior static.

My colleague, Professor Pamela Foohey, has just posted a paper on SSRN about religious organizations that have filed chapter 11. While the Roman Catholic dioceses bankruptcies have grabbed a lot of attention, Foohey identifies 509 other cases filed by faith-based organizations from 2006 - 2011. The amount of work in this study is impressive.

In an interesting opinion, Chief Judge Laney of the Middle District of Georgia held that a tort claim that "arose" well before a Chapter 7 filing but was not discovered by the debtor until well after discharge was property of the Chapter 7 case.
