Affirmative Insurance Holdings, Inc. Files for Bankruptcy – 341 and Formation Meetings Scheduled

On October 14, 2015, Affirmative Insurance Holdings, Inc. and 7 affiliates filed for relief under chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code.  The cases are jointly administered under Case Number 15-12136 and presided over by Judge Christopher S. Sontchi.  The first day hearing was held on October 19, 2015.  The second day hearing is scheduled for November 18, 2015 at 12:30 p.m.

Why Bankruptcy Often Means the End for Retailers

More than half the major U.S. retailers that have for filed bankruptcy since 2005 ultimately shut down, according to a study from AlixPartners advisory firm.

The authors found roughly 55% of bankrupt retailers never reopened and compared that rate with a separate study that found that non-retailers liquidate in bankruptcy less than 5% of the time.

Deutsche Bank Gets a Trim: After reporting a heavy 6 billion euro loss for the third quarter, Deutsche Bank announced it will cut jobs over the next two years. Deutsche will shed 9,000 full-time jobs, 6,000 external contractors and 20,000 other positions, according to the Wall Street Journal. In total, the bank employs around 100,000 people.
